Surabaya (08/09) - Exactly at midnight 10 officers from the Class 1 Seaport Health Office (KKP) Surabaya accompanied by 5 officers from the Juanda International Airport respectively from the divisions of Aviation Security and Airport Operation conducted misting around the area of Terminals 1 and 2 of the Juanda Airport. This misting is for anticipation and early prevention of zika virus.

Misting was first carried out in the area around the external lobby of the airport, then continued to the parking area. The work was continued on to the area around the apron or aircraft parking area.

Mulyo Arianto, Head of Vector Control Section of Class 1 KKP, Surabaya, said; "in addition to screening on every passenger arriving from countries listed to have virus Zika, equally important is we together keep the environment free from mosquitoes through the 3M activities: emptying, draining, and burying unused objects that can be used to accommodate water that enable mosquitoes to lay eggs. Spread of Zika virus is like spread of dengue fever which is through aedes aegypti mosquitoes that live in Indonesia,” he said.

"This misting is intended to exterminate mosquitoes in the area around the public area of the Juanda Airport Terminal,” said Mulyo Arianto, Thursday midnight (7/9/2016).

According to him misting is different from fogging, because  fogging sprays more smoke and can last only 5 minutes, while in misting the smoke is not too thick and can last between 15 minutes and 20 minutes.

"That is why, misting is done at midnight to avoid wind mixed with dust, and so that the mist can last longer and spread to the entire public area to kill mosquitoes," he uttered. Mulyo.
